Directors' Meeting

The annual Directors’ Meeting is exclusively dedicated to NEMO’s full members, the national museum organisations. The 2022 edition was organised on Sunday 9 October in connection to NEMO's European Museum Conference in Loulé, Portugal.

The NEMO Directors' Meeting presents an opportunity for directors of national museum organisations to exchange views with peers and to discuss trends and key developments in the European museum sector in an informal environment. At the 2022 meeting, participants got to explore how small and mid-sized museum organisations can operate to generate real impact and to represent the whole sector.

Martin Zierold, Director of the Institute for Arts and Media Management at Hamburg’s University of Theatre and Music, gave an inspiring and well-recieved presentation on the meeting topic. He challenged the particpants by opening with the statement that there are always more things you could do than are possible to be done. He inspired to create actual change and impact by nuturing meaningful relationships. Learn more in the pdf version of his presentaiton.

Zierold's areas of focus are strategy and organisational development of arts organisations in times of uncertainty and transformation. He also works freelance as a coach, trainer and consultant. With a background in social sciences and a PhD on memory culture and digital media (2006), he has worked in various academic positions and arts management prior to taking on the chair in Hamburg.
