NEMO has launched an anonymous questionnaire to gather an overview of the status quo of political influence and effects of polarisation on museums in Europe. The results will feed into discussions at the NEMO European Museum Conference and help build a general standpoint for NEMO.

While preparing NEMO’s European Museum Conference “Can we talk? Museums facing polarisation”, taking place from 10-12 November 2024 in Sibiu, Romania, NEMO has understood that the theme is crucial and at the same time difficult. Some museums and museum associations might feel uncomfortable to publicly speak about their particular situation and experiences regarding polarising opinions. However, we know that there is power in sharing experiences to stand together and support each other.

Therefore, NEMO has developed a short questionnaire to understand museums' perspective and to ask if museums feel that they are free to steer and develop their institutions, programmes, positioning and public actions, or if they feel under any kind of pressure - socially, economically, or politically.

The questionnaire is open to everyone and the results will feed into a larger discussion reflecting the sector situation at the NEMO European Museum Conference, and help build a general standpoint for NEMO.
