On 23 June 2022, the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) announced its Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) on Culture and Creativity. Following a call for proposals published in October 2021, a winning team of 50 partners from 20 countries will be leading the EIT Culture & Creativity with the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft as lead coordinator. With the new KIC, EIT aims at teaching cutting-edge technology to creatives and creativity as a cross-industry skill.

Furthermore, EIT Culture & Creativity aims to inspire and facilitate collaborative innovation in the Cultural and Creative Sectors and Industries (CCSI) by increasing multidisciplinary collaborations of higher education leaders with creative industry economics while also nurturing imaginative, creative businesspeople and market-savvy artists & designers ahead of Europe’s green and digital transformation.

The new pan-European partnership can expect to split approximately EUR 300 million of EIT funding under Horizon Europe with the possibility to leverage more funds from the private and public sector. To facilitate EIT Culture & Creativity’s establishment, the EIT will provide the winning partnership with a start-up grant of up to EUR 6 million to ensure they become fully operational as soon as possible. Dedicated funding for two new EIT Knowledge and Innovation Communities is planned to be launched during the 2021-2027 EU funding period.
