The cities were measured along three domains which were divided into nine "dimensions".
The domain "cultural vibrancy" held the dimensions "cultural venues and facilities" and "cultural participation and attractiveness".
This Monitor supports the European Commission’s efforts to put culture at the heart of its policy agenda. Cities in the 28 EU Member States, Norway and Switzerland are presented in the report. It is a first step to measure the value and impact of cultural and creative assets.
The Cultural and Creative Cities Monitor is published in its first edition <link https: composite-indicators.jrc.ec.europa.eu cultural-creative-cities-monitor external-link-new-window external link in new>along with a website that fosters benchmarking through various tools. The goal is to also enable exchange and learning between cities and support to identify their strengths. For researchers, the pool of comparable data is expected to generate new questions and insights into the role of culture and creativity in cities’ social and economic wellbeing. It also aims to support policy makers.
It is a first step and does not serve as a yardstick for definitive evaluation. But it offers a few markers and enables to track the effect and effectiveness of different actions.
