Finland takes over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union

The Presidency of the Council of the European Union was passed on to Finland on 1 July 2019. During its presidency, lasting until 31 December 2019, Finland will focus on strengthening common values and the rule of law, making the EU more competitive and socially inclusive, promoting action on climate change and protecting the security of EU citizens.

Finland has laid out the following priorities for its Presidency:

As for culture, Finland aims to build inclusive, cohesive, free and open societies to foster democracy as well as sustainability and education. NEMO is attending the conference Creative Transformations – Culture for Democratic and Sustainable Europe, happening from 9-10 July 2019 in Helsinki, to make sure that the voice of museums is heard by the Presidency.
