Give input on EC Action Plan to fight illicit trafficking of cultural goods

On 20 May 2022, the European Commission launched a public consultation on the Action Plan to fight illicit trafficking of cultural goods. Input is welcomed until 15 July 2022.

The objective of the action plan is to disrupt criminal activities and protect cultural heritage, as part of the EU strategy on organised crime.

The Action Plan will not contain legal measures but it will aim to provide a clear, comprehensive and effective framework to the EU contribution to the fight against trafficking of cultural goods in the years 2022-2025. It will examine necessary actions to address trafficking of cultural goods in the internal market context. The considered actions include (but are not limited to):

  • Enhancing transparency of the art and antiquities trade within the EU.
  • Raising awareness on the threat posed by trafficking in cultural goods at global, EU, national and local levels among journalists, the youth, cultural heritage professionals, decision makers and collectors.
  • Building capacity amongst cultural heritage experts.
