International Research Project Aims at Protecting Art from Earthquakes

The J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, the USA, the Greek government and the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, have teamed up to research innovative ways of protecting art from Earthquakes.

Studies indicate that natural disasters will increase in the future. In order to protect valuable art The Getty museum, which already has 30 years of experience of earthquake safe installation techniques, has teamed up with the Greek Government for a joint research project. In the course of the research effort will Getty’s isolator mounts and seismic mitigation bases be developed. Prototypes of new devices will later be on display at the National Archaeological Museum in Athens.
