Mark O'Neill, former director of Glasgow Life, will be moderating the three engaging panels on 10 November 2017. He will share the stage with Peter van Mensch, who will discuss collecting contemporary material culture and the recent discourse about (the need of) museums reaching into political and social spheres with their exhibitions.
His introduction will pave the way for three panels, each giving regard to certain aspects of collecting.
Diana Walters, International Heritage Consultant and Joachim Baur, Museum Friedland will discuss how museums can reach into social and political spheres more in depth. While new approaches to collecting the present will be introduced from Belgium and Finland. Teemu Aloha explains the work of the Finnish TAKO network, its structure and strategy.
The European identity has shifted over the past years and become even more significant in the last years. What collecting and exhibiting Europe can look like and entails will be discussed by Taja Vovk van Gaal of the House of European History and Paul Dujardin from BOZAR.
Additionally, NEMO's first day will see a kickoff for the European Year of Cultural Heritage by Martine Reicherts, Director-General for DG Education and Culture, European Commission.
