NEMO contributes to EC paper on alternative sources of income for cultural heritage

The European Commission (EC) has published a background paper with best practise examples on complementary funding for cultural heritage. As a member of the EC’s expert group on cultural heritage, NEMO was invited to contribute with input from the museum sector.

The paper was prepared for a workshop organised in March 2021 by the European Commission Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture. The paper states that cultural heritage plays an important part in the drive for economic growth as it allows for the creation of jobs and the development of cities, regions and countries. It also states that the cultural heritage sector has been especially impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. This has further highlighted the need to strengthen the sector’s financial resilience. Therefore, the workshop was organised and the background paper was prepared to discuss and identify ways to promote the CH sector’s economic sustainability.
