Portugal hosts the Presidency of the Council of the European Union

From 1 January-30 June 2021, Portugal will preside the Council of the European Union for the fourth time.

Portugal takes over the Presidency of the Council from Germany with the motto “Time to deliver: a fair, green and digital recovery”. The Portuguese Presidency will act in accordance with three fundamental priorities:

  1. Economic and social recovery based on the engines of the climate and digital transitions.
  2. Developing the European Union Social Pillar as a basis of trust that allows us to lead digital and climate transitions leaving no one behind, a central topic of the Social Summit we will be holding in Porto in May.
  3. Reinforcing the strategic autonomy of a European Union open to the world by strengthening relationships with our transatlantic partners, both with the new American administration and with Latin America, with Africa, with the Indo-Pacific area, namely through the EU-India Summit, and with our neighbours in the east, who we will be meeting in an Eastern Partnership Summit, and in the south.

In connection to the Presidency, the General Direction Cultural Heritage Portugal (DGPC) will organise the second part of the series of conferences on museums and social responsibility. It will take place online from 23-24 March and focus on participation, networking and partnership.

Until then, watch the presentations from the first conference Museums and Social Responsibility: Values Revisited, which NEMO co-organised with the German Museums Association.
