The Commission adopts an update of the Horizon 2020 Work Programme

The Commission has approved additional support to Horizon 2020, the EU’s research and innovation programme, to strengthen coronavirus research and to include a dedicated ‘green deal call’ under the enhanced European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot, specifically targeted to women innovators.

Besides the €47.5 million emergency coronavirus call, the updated 2020 Work Programme allocates over €350 million under the EIC pilot to SMEs with breakthrough innovations addressing one or several Green Deal objectives.

About the update, Mariya Gabriel, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, said:

“Emerging challenges require quick and effective responses from the EU. The rapid mobilisation of coronavirus research and innovation funding has proven once again that Horizon 2020 is a flexible programme, able to adapt to the immediate needs of the citizens while addressing long-term issues.”
