The Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU has been launched

On 10 January 2019, the Romanian Presidency was officially launched in Bucharest. Romania’s presidency started on 1 January 2019 and will last until 30 June 2019. It is the first time that the country holds the Council rotating presidency.

The motto “cohesion, a common European value, understood as unity, equal treatment and convergence” is a determining factor of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU. The presidency will focus on the main priorities listed below:

  • Europe of convergence
  • a safer Europe
  • Europe as a strong global actor
  • Europe of common values.

The future of Europe will be discussed in a Summit organised on Europe Day, 9 May 2019, in Sibiu, Romania.
