Museums under pressure

Last week we had important conversations at the NEMO European Museum Conference with 241 participants from 37 countries. Drawing on these discussions and a recent survey, the NEMO Executive Board has issued a statement addressing the increasing challenges museums face due to political interference and societal polarisation. The statement underscores the essential role museums play in fostering democratic values, open dialogue, and community resilience.

With the statement, NEMO reaffirms its commitment to support and advocate for museums' independence, integrity, and role as trusted institutions across Europe.

Revisit the conference 'Can we talk? Museums facing polarisation' in Sibiu with our Day 1 and Day 2 summaries with photos. We’re excited to share the recording of Meta Knol’s inspiring keynote presentation 'Shifting narratives: Towards the museum of the future'. Dive deeper into her insights through the slides with notes that Meta has published on LinkedIn.
