Thinking into the future, preserving the past: Information and knowledge transfer for creative artists and preservation experts

The International trade fair for museums, preservation and cultural heritage will take place from 20 to 22 November 2019 in Cologne, Germany. Relevant companies from all disciplines will present new products, solutions and concepts. In addition, the European Heritage Association, the German Museums Association (DMB), Europa Nostra, the Association of Restorers (VDR), the Network of European Museum Organisations (NEMO) and the Cologne Institute of Conservation Sciences (CICS) of the Technical University of Cologne will participate. Also, don't miss the first German Museum Congress that takes place on 20 November. With its successful combination of trade fair and event programme, EXPONATEC COLOGNE provides ideal conditions for networking and knowledge transfer.

The Balkan Museum Network: Museum Souvenir Award 2019
The Balkan Museum Network invites its member museums to apply for the Museum Souvenir Award 2019. The award is celebrating museum collections, crafts skills and creativity. Recognizing the potential of crafts in the production of innovative and beautiful objects that can contribute to the economic sustainability of museums, BMN would like to promote the best practices in the Balkan region. The application deadline is 15 September 2019.

The Netherlands Museums Association: Siebe Weide is leaving the Association
After twelve years Siebe Weide is leaving the post as Director of the Netherlands Museums Association (NMA). Under his leadership, the NMA grew to be a strong and influential voice of museums in The Netherlands. Mirjam Moll takes over as acting director of the NMA. Weide also served nine years in the board of NEMO, which he chaired from 2010 to 2014.

The V&A: Collections Care and Management on 25-29 November 2019 in London, the UK
The V&A Academy offers the chance to join other museum professionals on a programme of one-week intensive training courses. The course is designed for museum professionals working in areas of collections management and/or conservation and offers participants the chance to deepen their knowledge and understanding of collections care, conservation and collections management practice. The Irish Museums Association (IMA) invites individual and session proposals for presentations at the IMA Annual Conference 2020. Under the title Transforming Museums, this conference will seek to explore what are the attitudes, partnerships, and collaborations that can drive development and redraw the museum’s boundaries as we look towards the future. Ministry of Culture Spain: OMG. Youth at the Museums, Training Course, 16-21 October 2019 in Cantabria, Valencia and Madrid, Spain
Following the first edition of OMG! the Spanish National Agency for Youth, in collaboration with the Subdirección General de Museos Estatales (Ministerio de Cultura y Deporte) and Erasmus+ (European Commission), organises a training course with the aim of creating bridges between museums and the youth sector through non-formal education. During the 4-day training course, participants will have the opportunity to analyse the barriers to youth participation at museums and their activities, explore potential tools to overcome these barriers, discover local activities in Spanish museums and potentially network with other professionals. Application deadline: 19 August

ICOM Russia – Conference "Museums and the older generation: participatory practices in the era of social challenges": 26-27 September 2019, Moscow, Russian Federation, The New Tretyakov Gallery
The aim of the conference is to activate the dialog between professionals in the culture and social sphere in order to discuss museum capacities for the inclusion of older citizens in the work with heritage, foster social contacts, personal development and self-realization. At the conference, leading experts and practitioners in sociology, psychology, social work as well as museum specialists will share the experience of building effective interaction with this group of the population. The event is organized by NGO “Project Initiative”, Moscow Department of Labour and Social Protection of Population, The State Tretyakov Gallery, ICOM Russia.

Heritage & Museums: H&M President Lila de Chaves participated at the 6th international Documentary Festival Awards-Film Freeway of Ierapetra Crete with a seminar on "Cultural Diplomacy". She highlighted the collaboration between institutions like NEMO, EUROPA NOSTRA, WFFM etc. in the seminar. At an art working group meeting, at the Teriade Museum On Mitilini Island, an exhibition about the primitive artist Theophilu's paintings was planned. The exhibition will take place in Paris in 2021, commemorating the 200 years of Greece liberation in 1821 from the Ottomans.
