Do museums increase wellbeing?

Make sure to join the upcoming free NEMO Webinar to find out! On 25 February 2019 at 15:00 CET, Marie Briguglio, Professor at the University of Malta, will discuss the relationship between museums, economics and wellbeing. Register before Friday 22 February 2019 via this google form.

From 27 February - 1 March 2019, the first training opportunity of the initiative BE MUSEUMER will gather museum professionals from Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia in Tbilisi, Georgia. NEMO board member Margherita Sani will inform the participants about modern and diverse techniques and approaches to museum education. The Creative Europe funded project is led by NEMO member the Georgian Museums Association together with NEMO and the Academy of Cultural Management and aims to empower museum professionals in the South Caucasus region.

The NEMO Executive Board met in Berlin, Germany, from 7-8 February 2019 for a strategy development meeting to further NEMO’s action plan 2019-2021. Stay tuned for announcements of upcoming activities!

The Gallery of Matica srpska, Novi Sad, Serbia: Project "Museology for Beginners" - the exhibition The Young Choose
During the past four months the Gallery of Matica srpska, young people got to discover how a museum works from the inside out. The whole process resulted in the exhibition titled The Young People Choose, telling the stories about people’s leisure time during the history, absurdity of starvation and the building of identity.

The Gallery of Matica srpska, Novi Sad, Serbia: Programmes "CUL-tour through Novi Sad" and "Growing up with Art - Baby in the Gallery"
CUL-tour through Novi Sad has been created with the idea to encourage young people to get involved in design, realization and promotion of the cultural offer of the city of Novi Sad and to point out the cultural values and importance of the city, as well as the importance of its history and culture in the European context. Since 2018, the Gallery of Matica srpska has opened its doors to the youngest visitors – babies and their parents, as well, with the intention to point out the importance of presence of culture in children’s upbringing, from their earliest age.

General Directorate for Cultural Heritage (DGPC): Portuguese New Magazine on Museums
The DGPC has launched a new magazine on museums; Revista de Museus (RM). The first issue focuses on the close relation between museums and tourism from different perspectives, including museum directors, academics, researchers, tourism professionals and writers. Although it is written in Portuguese, abstracts in English are available.

ICOM Belgique Wallonie-Bruxelles, the House of European History and CECA Belgium: Belgian Museum Education and Outreach Day: Boosting Museum Education - Methodologies and Tools, March 18th, Brussels
Museum education plays a crucial role within the museum world. Communicating with the public, reaching new audiences, finding new ways to attract visitors, including local communities: all these tasks need good training and adequate methodologies. During one day, Belgian professionals will exchange best practices, ideas and methodologies through interactive workshops.

Hungarian National Museum and Pulszky Society – Hungarian Museum Association: Conference on the 150th Anniversary of Ferenc Pulszky Nominated Director of Hungarian National Museum, Budapest, 4 March 2019
Ferenc Pulszky was director of the HNM between 1869 and 1894. His activity in this period played a very important role not only in the history of Hungary’s first museum, but the whole fields’ progress. The conference aims to interpret his programme and activity and define the role and place of the institution in the 21st century.

Lithuanian Museums Association (LMA) - Lithuanian Museums participate in International Vilnius Book Fair 2019, Lithuania, 21 –24 February 2019
30 Lithuanian museums will participate in International Vilnius Book Fair 2019 and directly communicate to thousands of visitors about new books, events and education. The educational exhibition “Past is Opened to Future: Texts and Images from Museum Collections” devoted to the 20 years of Lithuanian museums’ publishing activities is the highlight of united museums' stand.

NEMECH/MICC – Media Integration and Communication Center: Emotional Museums - Fifth Edition 6/9 March 2019 Florence, Italy
What is the role of emotions in designing 21st century museums?  - MuseiEmotivi Training Course Fifth Edition  about emotions, visitors involvement and participation in museums (in Italian), is organized at  Museo Marino Marini in Florence. The event is addressing museum professionals and curators and aims to explore the theme of visitor engagement and the role of emotions in the museum experience, with focus on "Emotive tools in Museum. Museums of the future should be provoking emotions to improve the educational experience and access to the collections, also through the use of new media and immersive technologies that allow to explore the museum's content in a creative, emotional and personalised way.
