As one of 14 partners from the creative and cultural sector, NEMO was part of developing the document calling for the recognition of the cultural and creative sectors as a key sector when it comes to innovation policies and public funding. The Manifesto was further discussed and released at THE ARTS+ Innovation Summit on 10 October 2018, organised within the framework of the Frankfurter Buchmesse.

Austrian Museums Association: Value-added study of all Austrian museums published

The value of museums can hardly be expressed in monetary terms. However, the present ICG Integrated Consulting Group Impact Study of Austrian Museums shows the substantial economic role museums play in Austria and points out their significance with regards to socio-cultural aspects. Every Euro invested by the public sector in financing museums creates an added value of 1.8 €. Financial returns to the public sector correspond to 61 percent of the subsidies paid. About 7.700 jobs (full-time equivalents) depend on Museums. In addition, museums enhance tourism. With 19.1 million visitors, the impulse for tourism is considerable. The estimated added value is around 1.775 million €. The study has also provided new insights about the role of volunteering in Austrian museums, which ensures the existence of many (mostly small and rural) museums. While the public sector invests around 15 € per visitor on average in all museums, the contribution from honorary museums is reduced to 4 € per person.
