The conference fee is 150 Euro and includes access to all conference offers including meals and dinners.

  • If you are a NEMO member, the participation is free for 2 representatives from the member organisation. Additional delegates from the member organisation pay a discounted fee of 100 Euro per person. Please present proof of membership.
  • Members of organisations that are members of NEMO receive a discount of 20% (120 Euro). Please present proof of membership.
  • Students receive a 50% discount (75 Euro). Please present student ID.

We want to encourage the full participation from our colleagues in Tartu and Estonia to connect with their European colleagues. This is why we have reduced fees for

  • Staff members at the Estonian National Museum and the Estonian Museums Association, can attend the conference free of charge
  • Staff members from museums from the rest of Estonia pay a conference fee for 75 Euro

NEMO European Museum Conference is open for everyone and especially targets museum directors, culture policy people, museum educators, activists, students, people active in European cooperation projects, curators, representatives of museum organisations, museums interest groups and policy makers on national and European level.


Tartu is the second largest city in Estonia and can be accessed via the airport in the capital city Tallinn. It takes about 2,5 hours to travel from the airport to Tartu with bus or train.

It is also possible to fly to Riga, Latvia, and take a bus to Tartu (three hours). Information about travel from Riga Airport to Tartu will soon be added.

Please do consider alternatives to flying, such as taking the train or bus to minimize your carbon footprint when traveling to the conference. 

Delegates traveling from Helsinki, Finland, have the option of flying directly to Tartu Airport with Finnair. The Airport Express Bus (free) or taxi, which costs about €11-14, takes you into the city of Tartu. 

Travel from Tallinn to Tartu

By Bus

On you can book one of over 30 express buses that depart daily from Tallinn's bus station via Tallinn Airport (Lennujaam) to Tartu bus station. Bus tickets are about €10 and all buses have Wi-Fi.

People arriving late at night to Tallinn Airport can order the Tartu-Tallinn airport shuttle, which costs about €20. 

By Train

For roughly the same price as the bus, one can take the train from Tallinn to Tartu. Eight trains depart daily from Tallinn's Balti Jaam train station to Tartu and you can book your ticket on It is recommended to book seats in advance since the trains usually fill up, especially on Fridays and Sundays. The trains have free Wi-Fi.

Most of the conference programme will take place at the Estonian National Museum. The museum is situated 2 kilometres outside of the city centre and daily shuttles will take conference delegates from Tartu to the museum. More details about the NEMO shuttle bus will be added in September.
