A Museum Night Out - Dance at the Museum

19 June 2018 | Berlin, Germany

NEMO and its partners were proud to invite to the event A Museum Night Out – Dance at the Museum; an event dedicated to museums and cultural heritage. The event was organised within the framework of the European Cultural Heritage Summit – Sharing Heritage/ Sharing Values, which took place from 18-24 June 2018 in Berlin, Germany. The evening represented the only event organised by the European museum sector during the Summit. NEMO and its partners made sure to make the most of the evening by informing the public and professionals about the importance of museums and cultural heritage, all while dancing and having a great time.

A Night to Remember
872 visitors came throughout the evening, marking the event as a success. The guests were greeted at the Museum for Communication Berlin by NEMO, the German Museums Association, the Museum for Communication, the Finnish Museums Association, the European Museum Academy, the Reinwardt Academy and THE ARTS+.

When the doors opened at 19:30, the first visitors were welcomed with live music performed by the Pearls, who played at different locations in the museum during the evening. A welcome speech was given by NEMO Chair David Vuillaume and NEMO Secretary General Julia Pagel as well as by Anja Schaluschke, director of the Museum for Communication. Afterwards, DJ Pier Luigi Sacco [The Misha Sessions ft. PLS], also known as professor Pier Luigi Sacco, Special Adviser to the European Commission in the Field of Cultural Heritage, played until Lila Chuupa-Hoops did the first of two hula hoop performances. Later, DJ Justin Fidèle made sure that everyone kept on dancing to the very end. The full evening programme can be seen below.

European Cultural Heritage Summit – Sharing Heritage/ Sharing Values
The Summit represented the largest and most visible event organised in Europe within the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018. More than 1000 participants, among them high-level policy makers from national and European level, visited Berlin during the week of events, organised by different stakeholders of the European cultural heritage sector. Everyone engaged and mobilised during the Summit perused the same goal of an ambitious European Cultural Heritage Agenda.

At the end of the Summit, the co-hosting organisations presented the Berlin Call to Action. The document builds momentum from the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 and calls for action with tangible results in regard to cultural heritage. Further, the Berlin Call for Action stresses the importance to make cultural heritage integral at the centre of Europe’s policies and priorities.

The Summit was co-organised by Europa Nostra, the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz (Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, SPK) and the German Cultural Heritage Committee (DNK), acting as national coordinator of the EYCH in Germany.

This event was awarded with the European Year of Cultural Heritage Label 2018, showing that it supported the role of Europe’s cultural heritage and its importance to cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue. Learn more about obtaining the label from NEMO here.
