Vana Gović

Vana Gović graduated in 2006 from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, Departments of Art History and Ethnology. Since 2013 she has been a senior curator at Maritime and History Museum of Croatian Littoral Rijeka, after working in the Museum of Modern and Contemporary art in Rijeka and in the Lošinj Museum on the island of Lošinj.

As a manager of one of the Museum subsidiaries - Lipa Remembers Memorial Centre - she focuses on dealing with difficult heritage. By combining culture of remembrance, contemporary art and community engagement, she favours “crossover” museum programmes and activities as a way of questioning museum potentials for impacting social change.

Since 2018, she has been managing the EU project Museum of the Future – the Civic Museum Council as the Model for Participatory Governance which resulted in the Maritime and History Museum of Croatian Littoral Rijeka being the first museum in Croatia to successfully implement participatory governance.

She has facilitated several participatory museum programs, curated large number of exhibitions and site-specific installations, authored numerous books, catalogues, and journal articles.

At NEMO’s European Museum Conference 2020, Vana Gović will present the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Coast in the special panel “Spotlight on Rijeka museums!” on 17 November.
