Welcome back from the summer break!

We are in the midst of preparing our upcoming Annual Conference Money Matters: The Economic Value of Museums from 10-12 November 2016 in Karlsruhe, Germany and hope to see many of you there!

We would also like to draw your attention to NEMO's next Learning Exchange for NEMO members at the Institute for Cultural Heritage of the Region Emilia Romagna in Italy from 31 January - 1 February 2017!

European Commission presents proposal for European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018!

As part of the European Heritage Alliance 3.3, NEMO was actively involved in the process towards the presented proposal, which sets the framework for the European Year of Cultural Heritage (EYCH).

Leo Tolstoy State Museum-Estate: Tolstoy Weekend Theater Festival at Yasnaya Polyana, 9-11 September 2016 

The Tolstoy Weekend Theater Festival will take place in the Tula region, 200 km to the south from Moscow. Leading theaters of Russia, among them the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater and Mayakovsky Theater, will participate in the festival. The setting for the plays will be Tolstoy's ancestral estate, Yasnaya Polyana. Further information...


Europeana Space - Conference: Cultural Heritage: Reuse, Remake, Reimagine, 21-22 November 2016, Berlin, Germany

The Europeana Space project is a catalyzer for generating new ways of engaging with digital cultural heritage through creative reuse in education and learning as well as in the creative industries. Cultural Heritage: Reuse, Remake, Reimagine, the third conference from the Europeana Space project, will showcase the myriad ways that cultural heritage can be used and enriched through new technologies, innovation and the ingenuity of the creative industries. Finnish Museums Association - Picture this! International Conference on Photography and Videos in Museums Today, 24–25 November 2016, Helsinki, Finland

Registration is now open for a two-day international conference on photography and videos in museums. The conference discusses the challenges and possibilities of museums' visual culture with international and Finnish speakers as well as with practical examples. Stephen Mayes, Colin White and Merja Salo have been invited as the keynote speakers at the conference. The conference is organised by the Finnish Museums Association, Finnish National Gallery, and Finnish Museum of Photography. Programme and registration:


Initiative for Heritage Conservation - Workshops: "Communication Strategy and strategic marketing for cultural organisations" (in Elefsina) and "Branding for Cultural Organisations" (in Athens)

The first workshop takes place from 26-28 September 2016 and aims to enable participants to identify their audiences and develop a target-specific communication strategy. From 14-17 October 2016 the second workshop explores the relationship between brand and heritage. You can apply for the workshops until 21 September 2016.
