Clear vision for AI and museums

In the next weeks we will continue to discuss our policy recommendations addressing artificial intelligence (AI) and museums to learn about national approaches across Europe. The recommendations were first presented at an international conference in Brussels, which we invite you to revisit in a detailed summary. We find that a clear political vision is crucial for navigating AI complexities, prioritising collaboration, responsible data management, and innovation. Museums must uphold integrity in AI interactions, emphasising trust and transparency. Regulatory attention and financial investment are needed to address challenges like environmental costs, diverse museum needs, and resource deficiencies. Museums can play a role in co-creating ethical AI standards and counter private interests. Therefore, we have co-produced three recommendations directed to policy makers at all levels. In short, they call for: - A political vision for museums and cultural heritage in an AI-driven society
- Financial investments to apply AI successfully in the Public Cultural Domain
- Establishment of a European AI innovation hub for cultural heritage
