The Forgotten Icons

Icons from Mărgău centre will be displayed for the public for the first time. The icons from Mărgău are surprising creations in iconography, which can be considered an unconscious step towards modernism, due to the lack of canonical regulations of the transitional times. They were sold in the villages of the Apuseni mountains area during the communist period, despite the regime's restrictions, and attest to the continuation of the tradition of using glass icons in the peasant environment, which began in the 18th century, but also to the openness to new styles.
