Facilitated by Federico Borreani and Martino Catalani of BAM! Strategie Culturali, this NEMO Training consisted of three interactive sessions combining expert input, practical exercises and peer exchange. The programme was designed to support museum professionals in navigating digital transformation processes within their organisations.
Over the course of the training, 20 participants explored how digital transformation is reshaping museums and professional roles, discussed the skills and competences needed to lead change, and examined how data strategies, customer relationship management (CRM) systems and participatory approaches can strengthen relationships with audiences.
Drawing on their extensive experience in the cultural sector, Federico Borreani and Martino Catalani shared practical examples, strategic frameworks and insights that participants could apply to their own institutional contexts.
A key feature of the training was its collaborative approach. Through a shared Miro workspace, participants engaged in hands-on exercises, discussions and reflection activities that encouraged the direct application of ideas to real-life museum challenges. These activities helped translate concepts into practical actions while fostering a dynamic learning environment.
Beyond the training content itself, participants also benefited from the opportunity to exchange experiences with colleagues from museums across Europe, creating new connections and strengthening professional networks.
Reflecting on the experience, one participant noted: "Learning from experienced practitioners while exchanging perspectives with museum colleagues from across Europe was a highlight of the programme. The interactive exercises encouraged reflection and helped connect theory to everyday museum practice."
The training concluded with participants taking away practical tools, fresh perspectives and new ideas to support digital transformation processes in their institutions, as well as a stronger network of peers tackling similar opportunities and challenges.
After the training, another participant shared: "The training provided practical tools and frameworks that helped me better understand digital transformation and data management in museums. The combination of expert input and exchange with colleagues from across Europe was particularly valuable."
