With this Charter, museums in Flanders seek to broadly stimulate dialogue on the balance between their core tasks and their social role(s) as well as the challenges this entails. Resulting from joint reflection, it defines museums’ core tasks and emphasises service to society and democracy. Its principles draw on the ICOM Code of Ethics and are endorsed by the Vlaams Museumoverleg, FARO and ICOM Belgium Flanders.
