Tuuli Ahlholm

In her role as Digital Heritage Expert at the Finnish Postal Museum, Tampere, Tuuli Ahlholm specialises in digital solutions for museums and works on solving challenges of how to preserve and integrate digital-born culture - from social media to video games - into GLAM collections. Her further background is in 3D visualisation of cultural heritage, and digital humanities and ancient history in academia. 

At NEMO’s European Museum Conference 2025, Tuuli Ahlholm will join the panel “Changing from within: AI and the future of museum work” on Tuesday, 13 October.

Drafting ethical AI guidelines for museums: The case of the Finnish Postal Museum

The Finnish Postal Museum in 2024 started the process of drafting guidelines for using AI tools to help museum staff balance AI’s utility with its ethical challenges in everyday work. The guidelines were written collectively through a series of discussions with the whole staff. The first version of the guidelines was published in 2025, but we have since regularly returned to update these guidelines and continued discussions around AI, and this process in itself helps us to foster curiosity and criticality as a museum and a community amid rapid AI development.
