Practical information

We will gather everything you need to know to get ready for NEMO's European Museum Conference 2023 on this page.

At the conference

  • Public transport and taxi

    Public transport

Local and regional bus transport is carried out by LSL. The ticket prices are based on traveling zones and customer groups. LSL recommends visitors and tourists to pay with contactless card, mobile tickets (via the app) or day tickets.

    Taxi

Taxis are reliable in Finland. You may jump in any taxi marked with yellow sign and you’ll have the same price. There are several taxi services in Lahti. Below you will find their websites and phone numbers.

  • Conference badge and registration desk

You get your badge from the NEMO team at the conference registration desk at the Sibelius Hall. You need the conference badge to access the conference events. The registration desk will be staffed:

    • 20 November from 09:00-11:00
    • 21 November from 09:15-11:00

The NEMO team will always be around to help so even if we wouldn’t be at the registration desk, you’re welcome to come up to us and we will do our best to help.

Remember to keep your badge in case you want to visit Amos Rex, Finnish National Gallery and/or Oodi in Helsinki on Wednesday 22 November. The badge will give you free access to the museums.

  • Museum visits in Lahti and Helsinki

In addition to a packed programme with keynotes, presentations and workshops, we have organised visits to some local museums. You enter the museums for free by showing your conference name badge.

Please note that travel to the museums in Helsinki is organised individually by each conference participant and that there are no specific tours to catch. Instead, we welcome you to explore the exhibitions by yourself, or perhaps together with new connections from the conference.

Lahti Museum of Visual Arts Malva (Lahti)

Malva unites the Lahti Art Museum and the Poster Museum under one roof and offers new and exciting experiences of art, posters and design. The NEMO reception on 20 November at 19:30 takes place at the Malva Museum and they are graciously keeping their exhibitions open exclusively for you from 18:00-20:00. We highly recommend getting to Malva early to see their current exhibitions before we gather for the reception.

    1. Emma Helle, Tamara Piilola and Pia Sirén: Garden of the Future
    2. Sari Soininen: Mindscape
    3. Roots - Treasures from the Collections
    Finnish National Gallery (Helsinki)

The National Gallery is the largest art museum in Finland and is made up by three museums:

    1. Ateneum Art Museum covers art from the 19th century to the modern era.
    2. Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma offers experiences of art and new perspectives on life.
    3. Sinebrychoff Art Museum is the only museum in Finland that specialises in old European art.
    Amos Rex (Helsinki)

Amos Rex presents new, often experimental, contemporary art. It's located in a functionalist building called Lasipalatsi (‘glass palace’), a landmark of 1930s Finnish modernism. Currently Amos Rex is exhibiting five installations by Japanese composer and artist Ryoji Ikeda. The exhibition draws inspiration from the museums’ architecture and includes two brand new works created by Ikeda on the basis of his immediate spatial experience of the subterranean museum.

    Oodi Helsinki Central Library (Helsinki)

Oodi complements the cultural and media hub formed by Helsinki Music Centre, Finlandia Hall, Sanoma House and the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma. Oodi is a non-commercial, urban public space that is open to all.

  • Covid-19 safety measures

At the moment there are no Covid-19 regulations in Finland which would impact our conference. However, we encourage you to show solidarity with others and only attend if you are feeling healthy and we recommend getting tested before embarking on your travel. Please be mindful of other people's wishes about maintaining distance, not shaking hands, wearing masks etc.

At all venues, the host is providing us with disinfectant and we ask you to please use it regularly in addition to thoroughly washing your hands.

Let’s stay healthy while reconnecting and networking!
