The mentoring programme is designed to support and empower professionals across the museum and heritage sector by connecting them with senior peers. Through tailored one-to-one online sessions, mentees are encouraged to set goals, reflect on their practice, and strengthen their skills in a supportive and confidential environment.
For the autumn 2026 edition, five participants connected to NEMO member organisations will be selected to take part free of charge. The capacity building activity is primarily targeted at individuals working in learning roles within the museum and heritage sector.

NEMO members may also nominate individuals from their networks, including staff and steering committee members.
What the programme offers
Selected participants will:
- Receive personalised support from experienced GEM mentors, who are senior museum professionals based in the United Kingdom
- Take part in 3–4 online mentoring sessions (60–90 minutes each)
- Engage in a structured yet flexible process focused on individual goals and professional development
- Expand their international network and gain new perspectives on learning in museums
The programme fosters a collaborative and confidential learning environment in which mentors provide expert guidance and practical tools, while mentees actively engage by reflecting on their strengths and experiences, setting clear development goals, and participating openly in the process.
The mentoring sessions will take place between mid-September and December 2026, with mentor–mentee matching carried out in September.
