Founded in 1992, NEMO represents more than 30,000 museums across 40 countries, advocating for the role of museums in European society. Balkan Museum Network (BMN), with its 340 members, is dedicated to preserving the rich and complex heritage of the Balkans through collaboration and mutual support among museum professionals. The partnership between the two networks unites their efforts to address common challenges, promote cultural heritage, and empower museum professionals.
The partnership outlines a series of initiatives to be pursued jointly by NEMO and BMN:
- Capacity building: NEMO will financially support BMN’s conferences, workshops, and training activities, focusing on enhancing the skills of museum professionals.
- Knowledge exchange: Both networks will collaborate on disseminating information, sharing best practices, and conducting joint actions to tackle emerging challenges in the museum sector.
- Increased visibility: Efforts will be made to boost the visibility of both networks, highlighting the impact of their projects and fostering greater engagement among their members.
- Collaborative tools and methods: The partnership will explore innovative tools and methods for effective cooperation between European and Balkan museums.
By formalising this partnership, NEMO and BMN underscore their commitment to building a resilient museum community that values education, research, and cultural heritage protection. The agreement is set for an initial term of one year, with automatic renewals to ensure sustained collaboration.
