The Museums and Galleries Network for Exhibition Touring (MAGNET) has published a free toolkit designed to support museums and galleries planning and delivering collaborative exhibition projects.

Developed through the experience of the 12 organisations that make up the MAGNET network, the toolkit brings together practical guidance, templates and working documents created during a programme of co-curated touring exhibitions supported by Arts Council England and Art Fund.

The resource is aimed at arts and heritage professionals interested in working in partnership with other museums and galleries. It covers key stages of collaborative exhibition development, including partnership agreements, project governance, exhibition planning, interpretation, community engagement and environmental responsibility.

The toolkit consists of seven adaptable templates and guidance documents that organisations can tailor to their own circumstances, covering topics such as:

  • Partnership agreements and memoranda of understanding
  • Exhibition interpretation planning tools
  • Guidance for developing exhibition concepts
  • Community engagement checklists
  • Exhibition design and build tender templates
  • Environmental responsibility principles for collaborative projects
