Johannes Vogel

Prof. Johannes Vogel, Ph.D., is Director General of the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin and Professor of Biodiversity and Public Science at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Since 2012, he has led the museum’s strategic development, international partnerships, science policy engagement, and public outreach activities. Prior to this, he spent nearly two decades at the Natural History Museum, London, where he held a series of research and curatorial positions in botany. 

An internationally recognised biodiversity scientist and advocate for open science and citizen science, Vogel serves on numerous national and international advisory boards. He has been awarded the Federal Cross of Merit of Germany (2021) and the Order of Merit of the State of Berlin (2023).
