Tiina Merisalo

Tiina Merisalo has been the director of the Helsinki City Museum since 2003 and has 30 years of versatile museum experience and of cultural environment and heritage protection. She is MA in Art history from Helsinki University and has expanded her leadership and management skills with Executive MBA -degree from Aalto University Executive Education 2015 and other leadership programs including Nordic Museum Management Program in Denmark.

During her time as director, the Helsinki City Museum has gone through major changes and received several awards including The Finnish Museum of the Year Award 2017, Museums and Heritage International Award 2017 and the Special Commendation in European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA) 2018.

She has several positions of responsibility: she is the vice chair of the Finnish Museums Association Board; member in the Board of Theatre Museum and in the Board of Representatives of Museum of Finnish Architecture.

At NEMO’s European Museum Conference 2019, Tiina Merisalo will participate in “Panel 1 - Sustainable Cities and communities” together with Matt and Jess Turtle,  Museum of Homelessness, and Jordi Baltà Portolés, UCLG Agenda 21, on Friday 8 November.
