Danish museum visitor number recovers to pre-corona levels

Statistics shows that the Danish museums welcomed the same number of visitors in 2022 as in 2019. In total, 17.9 million people visited museums and their cafés, gardens and parks last year.

In an article, the Danish Museums Association writes that the numbers from Statistics Denmark suggests that Danish museums have succeeded in being both attractive and relevant for citizens to prioritise despite crisis and inflation.

The Danish Museums Association also shared some key points from the report:

  • Museum exhibitions were visited 15.6 million times in 2022, which is on the same level as the pre-pandemic year 2019.
  • Museums do not only attract visits to their exhibitions, but also to their cafés, gardens and parks. In 2022, there were 2.3 million people who came to the museum but did not visit the exhibition.
  • In total, there were 17.9 million visitors to museums.
  • This means that on average every citizen visited a museum three times last year.
