The museum audience has long been quite homogenous and it has become obvious that the it does not reflect the society as a whole. The British Museums Association sets out to change this and diversify the visitors at a museum with the new project Open Up: museums for everyone. Hopes are that the new resource will aid museums in the process of moving beyond just talking about diversity to actual action as well as real and lasting change.
Step one in the journey towards diversity in the museums is case studies from across the UK comlied as a guide completed with tools, tips and actions. The guide Open Up: museums for everyone, features stories from museums that successfully have diversified their visitors. In the second step more museums are asked to participate in the project by submitting their experiences and request help in their work towards being more inclusive.
