NEMO attended conference on data-driven audience development in the cultural sector

Upon invitation, NEMO took part in a conference hosted by the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU in Ghent, Belgium, from 7-9 February 2024 that focused on the digital transformation of the cultural sector.

The conference brought together policy makers, experts from EU institutions, academics and actors from the European cultural sector. Together they discussed how cultural organisations can benefit from data-driven work for example by strengthening their audience participation or by appealing to new target audiences.

NEMO represented the European museum community at the conference thanks to the attendance of board member Sergio Servellón who was “hoping for insights into how data-driven audience development will enhance audience engagement and shape the future of museums.”

The programme focused on data usage and digital opportunities, with a keynote that explored the opportunities and challenges of digitalisation for the cultural sector. Furthermore, policy proposals for the digital transformation as well as opportunities for cross-sectoral collaboration were discussed among other things.

The topic ties in with the work of NEMO’s working group “Digital Transformation”, whose focus in 2024 lies on the topic of Digitalisation & Audience. A report on measuring digital audiences will be published by the working group later this year.
