NEMO Participated in a Panel Debate about Endangered Cultural Heritage Sites

NEMO board member Aida Vezic, the Balkan Museum Network (Heritage without Borders), participated in the panel debate European Summit Conference: Endangered Heritage/ Endangered Values. The debate, which was organised by the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy, focused on cultural heritage and its impact on national and European levels. The debate took place on 20 June 2018 during the European Cultural Heritage Summit: Sharing Heritage/ Sharing Values in Berlin, Germany.

The panel debate aimed to present and discuss the problematic of the sites found in the list of the 7 Most Endangered Cultural Heritage Sites in 2018. The topics below were also covered. NEMO and its members were represented through Aida Vezic, who also made sure that the voice of museums was heard in the debate.

  • The importance of National Cultural Heritage sites to the whole European and International Community
  • Challenging the assumption of shared heritage leading to shared values
  • Debating the role and the responsibility of governments, private sector and civil society in preserving the sites
  • Reflecting on how Cultural Heritage as a common issue should be countered through a common project as an attempt of building “common identity” for a “common heritage”
