NEMO shared expertise on advocating for the role of museums in the sustainable transition

On 12 January 2024, NEMO Secretary General spoke at the symposium "Museums and the throwaway culture” at the House of European History in Brussels, Belgium.

The event marked the end of an initiative that gathered ten partner museums committed to transforming their institutional practices and raising awareness about the historical and contemporary significance of waste.

NEMO’s Secretary General Julia Pagel was invited to contribute with knowledge about advocating for the role of museums in the sustainable transition. She presented NEMO’s latest initiatives in the field, among others NEMO’s recent European research in the field, our advocacy work to uplift the instrumental role of museums in providing opportunities for critical reflection, inspiration and action, as well as other themes relevant to the UN SDG’s such as decent work, social resilience, and gender equality.
