The Trial membership scheme was first launched in 2022 with the aim of increasing access to NEMO and allow selected organisations to explore the benefits of being a member. After the challenging pandemic years, NEMO wanted to offer organisations the possibility to connect with the European museum community and promote exchange and networking between international colleagues.
The following organisations have been granted a Trial Membership in 2023:
- ABCittà (Italy)
- Fundación Uxío Novoneyra (Spain)
- Museum Society of Montenegro (Montenegro)
- Natural Science Museum - Cherni Osam (Bulgaria)
- Tomory Lajos Múzeum (Hungary)
NEMO asked the 2023 Trial members why they decided to apply for the Trial Membership and what they are expecting from the opportunity.
Museum Society of Montenegro reported that they applied for the cooperation and networking opportunities with European museums. By connecting with a European network, the Society is hoping to improve all aspects of museum work in Montenegro for individuals as well as on institutional level.
Natural Science Museum - Cherni Osam wishes to in particular gain new knowledge in the field of museum education and has joined the NEMO Working Group LEM – the Learning Museum. Additionally, they said that ‘the NEMO membership offers a great opportunity for us to improve and expand our museum activities. We’re looking forward to connecting with other museums in order to exchange ideas and participate in a community of museum professionals.’
When asked what ABCittà (MUBIG) is looking forward to, the representative stated ‘discovering experiences that can resonate with our own, particularly with regard to MUBIG, a neighbourhood museum in Milan, but we believe that methods and approaches useful for MUBIG can also come from institutions very different from our own and in very distant contexts. Confident that in NEMO we share the same belief in the social role of the museum, we look forward to listening, to sharing our methods (which come mainly from participatory design and urban planning) and to meeting other members.’
Fundación Uxío Novoneyra informed us that their board is looking forward to the strategic benefits of being part of a European network, especially considering its internationalization and cultural diplomacy since the Foundation is based in the peripheral region Galicia (NUTS ES11) with its own minority Culture and Language.
More about the Trial Membership programme
The trial membership includes the opportunity to participate in NEMO’s training activities and to connect with likeminded people by joining one of NEMO's topic-specific Working Groups. The trial members also receive two complimentary tickets to the NEMO European Museum Conference.
Additionally, members get help in establishing cross-border collaborations and staying up to date with information about relevant EU policies and funding. Members are part of furthering political demands to the European Union.
The next call for applications will be published in January 2024.
