Books and Audiences is also conducting a survey to learn more about the experiences of libraries, museums and other institutions, that regularly create and present book exhibitions, during the time of lockdown. The data from this survey will be analysed and discussed during a webinar organized by the network on 29 October 2020.
Webinar 1 on 22 Octiber 2020: What to tell and how to tell it in a contemporary book exhibition?
The first webinar introduces the new Conference of European National Librarians (CENL) working group “Books and Audiences”. We will address two pertinent questions of contemporary museums and exhibition practice:
- exhibition themes relevant to modern society
- modern methods of exhibition project management. The British Library, the National Library of Scotland and the National Library of Latvia will be sharing their recent project experiences.
Webinar 2 on 29 October 2020: The future for book exhibitions and their audiences
During this webinar book exhibition professionals from the Royal Danish Library, British Library and other organizations will give short talks on their own experiences during the Covid-19 confinement. Speakers and participants will discuss the possible lasting consequences and new approaches for book exhibitions in the following years. Does the Covid crisis signify the end of the onsite exhibition interactives we have for years been striving to develop?? Have any new findings emerged for making books as exhibition objects more attractive to visitors? How will digitally born book exhibitions evolve in a post-pandemic landscape? Come with your own questions and possible solutions to the webinar and together, let us explore how the future of book exhibitions might look.
The Books and Audiences Network Group
The network consists of libraries with permanent exhibitions dedicated to book publishing, including the National Library of Latvia, the Royal Library of Belgium, the National Library of Germany (Museum of Books and Writing), the British Library, the Royal Library of the Netherlands, the National Library of Estonia, Marsh`s Library (Ireland), and Lodret Vandret (Denmark), as well as a community of practice including book artists, librarians, archivists and heritage professionals. The task of the “Books and Audiences” network is to ensure a regular exchange of experiences within the book exhibition sector, as well as to maintain interdisciplinary exchanges, constantly developing the capacity of book exhibitions to form long-lasting and mutually beneficial relationships with a diverse breath and range of audiences. The origins of this cooperation can be traced back to seminar “Book Exhibitions and Their Audiences” organized by the National Library of Latvia in 2018, which brought together book exhibition professionals from 13 countries for the first time.
