Study maps museum studies and trainings around the world

A research developed by the UNESCO Chair and published by Ocim maps over 500 different kinds of museum studies and trainings to analyse the diversity of the field and how it has developed.

The report presents a quantitative overview of museum studies and training courses available across the world. Some highlights from the findings include that the top three names for general training are “Museum studies”, Museology” and “Heritage Studies”. The USA and Western Europe dominate almost all charts. 62% of museum studies are at master’s level. 82% of all training is delivered face-to-face, whereas 3.8% is online only.

In addition to UNESCO, Sorbonne nouvelle and Labex ICC have contributed to the research. The report is written by Audrey Doyen and François Mairesse.
