The ‘Cultural Website Sustainability Benchmark Report 2025’ looks at the carbon footprint of cultural websites in the UK. It aims to raise awareness and give cultural organisations the tools to take meaningful climate action online.

Supercool, in collaboration with Digital Carbon Online, measured the carbon impact of 66 cultural websites over a three-month period, covering nearly 9 million page visits. The results are published in the first benchmark study of its kind for the cultural sector.

The Cultural Website Sustainability Benchmark Report covers:

  • A sector-wide analysis of website emissions and key insights
  • Case studies from participating organisations
  • Guidance on measuring your own website’s carbon footprint
  • Tools to benchmark against other organisations in the UK cultural sector
  • Practical steps to reduce your website’s environmental impact

NEMO champions digital sustainability and regularly carries out digital cleanup days to reduce our digital carbon footprint. NEMO also strives towards being mindful of file sizes of uploads to the website and storage of large, unused files. Although the Digital Cleanup Day has passed, why not plan your own event and reduce your own and your organisations digital footprint?
