Alan Miller

Alan is a lecturer in the School of Computer Science at the University of St Andrews and lectures on the digital preservation and promotion of heritage. Part of the interdisciplinary open Virtual Worlds group he has worked with museums in the Highlands of Scotland and World wide exploring how digital technologies can be made accessible and help strengthen the connection between museums and community. Applying virtual reality to extend experiential learning so that the psychological distance people feel from climate change can be overcome is a current research topic. More generally Alan is interested in how immersive and mobile technologies can be applied in museum contexts to support Climate Action and the wider goals of sustainable development. 

At NEMO’s European Museum Conference 2023, Alan Miller will be facilitating the workshop from the Working Group Sustainability and Climate Action! on Tuesday, 21 November.
