Isabel Cordeiro

Isabel Cordeiro was appointed Secretary of State for Culture in March 2022, integrating the XXIII Constitutional Government of Portugal.

After graduating in Art History at the Faculty of Humanities — University of Lisbon in 1988, she attended an Art Management course at the National Administration Institute.  

Having a professional career closely linked to heritage and cultural management since 1990, working as Director of the collection management department of the Portuguese Institute of Museums (1998 - 2002), as General Deputy Director of the Portuguese Institute of Museums (2002 -2005), as public engagement Director at the world heritage monuments in Sintra (2006-2007) and as Director of the National Palace of Queluz (2008 - 2012), were some of the early highlights of her career.  

More recently, Isabel assumed the position of General Director of Cultural Heritage (2012 - 2014), followed by a brief period working as Advisor to the Director of the National Museum of Ancient Art (2014 - 2016). From March 2016 to 2022, she integrated the Board of Administration of the Centro Cultural de Belém Foundation, before occupying her current role.
