Sabine Verheyen

 In 2024, Sabine Verheyen was elected First Vice-President of the European Parliament. In this capacity, she is responsible for overseeing the Parliament’s communication strategy and managing its budget. Furthermore, as a member of the Bureau’s Artificial Intelligence working group, she is committed to ensure a meaningful and structured use of AI in the work of the European Parliament, guaranteeing its ethical use in accordance with European values.

 

Sabine Verheyen, born in 1964 in Aachen, Germany, completed her secondary education at St. Ursula Gymnasium in Aachen in 1983. She studied architecture at the Aachen University of Applied Science until 1988.

In 2009, she was elected as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for the German Christian Democratic Union (CDU). Since then, she has been an active figure in European politics, focusing on education, media policy, and the digital agenda. From 2019 to 2024, she served as Chairwoman of the Committee for Culture and Education in the European Parliament, where she played a significant role in shaping EU policy in these areas.
