NEMO Appeal to the German Culture Minister to support the Proposed Boost of the Creative Europe

Together with several German culture organisations NEMO has sent several German culture organisations have joined forces and sent a joint letter to Monika Grütters, German Minister of Culture and Media, on 22 November 2018, to ask for her full support of the proposed Creative Europe budget in the upcoming vote on the 2021-2027 EU-budget.

The cross-sectoral appeal points out the benefits of culture and the spill over effects that an investment in culture would generate. The letter supports MEP Silvia Costa’s report that suggests a doubling of the current Creative Europe budget from 1.4 to 2.8 Billion Euro in the next Multiannual Financial Framework.

The European Parliament voted on adopting the proposed budget on 14 November 2018. The overall EU budget 2021-2027 is still to be discussed by the European Council before a final decision on the future EU-budget will be reached. The signatories, NEMO, Kulturpolitische Gesellschaft, Internationales Theater Institut, European Theatre Convention, European Choral Association - Europa Cantat  and European Union of Music Competitions, are hoping to count on Monika Grütters full support for doubling the culture budget in debates and vote, which takes place from 13-14 December 2018.
