NEMO contributes to Voices of Culture structured dialogue on green transition and the energy crisis

From 16-17 June 2023, NEMO joined a brainstorming session organised by Voices of Culture in Tartu, Estonia, the European Capital of Culture 2024. The session is the first step in the preparation of a structured dialogue between the European Commission and the cultural and creative sectors.

At the session in Tartu on Culture and Creative Sectors and Industries driving Green Transition and facing the Energy Crisis, participants got to discuss ways to address the climate emergency, how to better integrate the power of culture and the CCSI into other socio-economic activities and industries across Europe to address and contain climate change as well as how to enable and accelerate the greening of cultural activities and the CCSI.

On the way to the meeting, NEMO Policy Officer and Sustainability Advocate shared: “Looking forward to discussing with colleagues and contributing to this paramount transition. With a strong foundation of the SDGs and a plethora of example solutions already in our sector, we are dedicated to “shaping the future based on what happens in the field.

To ensure that the needs and opportunities of museums are acknowledged by the European Commission, NEMO often applies to join the Voices of Culture structured dialogues. We have already participated in a number of Voices of Culture Structured Dialogues, including topics such as Social Inclusion, Digital Audiences and Skills, Training and Knowledge Transfer: Traditional and emerging heritage.

NEMO enjoyed being back in Tartu, where the 2019 NEMO European Museum Conference inspired museums to lead the way and become key players in creating a sustainable and equitable future and planet.

Selected participants of the Brainstorming meeting in Tartu will jointly write a Brainstorming report, which will be presented to the European Commission at a Dialogue meeting on 13 September 2023 in Brussels, Belgium.
