During the meeting with Commissioner Micallef, NEMO board members Sandro Debono, Petra Havu and Paulina Florjanowicz, as well as NEMO Secretary General Julia Pagel highlighted how museums have transformed from custodians of cultural heritage into active agents of societal change, contributing to a range of agendas, especially in the context of social issues and the preservation of democratic values. They also discussed the role of museums in the Culture Compass, a new strategic framework, to guide and harness the multiple dimensions of culture at EU level. A specific focus was put on acknowledging and supporting the independence of cultural institutions across the EU.
