The Meetup is a dedicated space for NEMO members to exchange experiences, raise questions, and learn from one another. By bringing together colleagues from across Europe, the session offered a trusted environment to explore how museums can foster thoughtful inquiry and reflective learning.
28 participants from the network, NEMO representatives and board members joined for an in-depth conversation about the role of critical thinking in museum practice.
After a warm welcome by Hanna Belz, NEMO Project Officer, the programme opened with a brief introduction followed by:
- Sandro Debono, NEMO Board Member, provided an overview of the theme of critical thinking. He offered a conceptual framework and invited participants to consider how critical thinking can inform curatorial decisions, public programming, and internal processes.
- Next, Caroline Wable from Universcience in Paris presented a case study highlighting how museums can serve as key promoters of critical thinking. She shared insights into Universcience’s initiatives that help visitors of all ages question information, evaluate evidence, and develop analytical skills - both in France and internationally. Have a look at the 2024 and 2025 reports covering results and outcomes of the past two Barometer of Critical Thinking.
- Following the presentations, participants engaged in an open discussion, reflecting on challenges and opportunities within their own institutions. Questions, comments, and shared experiences underscored a central message: fostering critical thinking is a collective commitment that strengthens museums’ impact in society.
We invite all NEMO member organisations to join these meetings. There is room for exchange, learning, and spontaneous announcements about projects, exhibitions, or initiatives. We look forward to seeing you next time in 2026!
