NEMO participates in ECHOES focus group workshop in Paris

On 31 March 2026, members of NEMO’s Executive Board, Sergio Servellón (ICOM Belgium) and Sandro Debono (University of Malta), took part in the ECHOES Focus Group “Conservators‑restorers and curators & art historians” in Paris.

The workshop gathered cultural heritage professionals to discuss needs, challenges and priorities for the future European Cultural Heritage Cloud. The session was designed to  connect museum and conservation stakeholders around data management, research and preservation, strengthen collaboration within the emerging Cultural Heritage Cloud, as well as gather sector input to guide future development and integration

Following an introduction to the Cloud, participants joined focused workshops. Both Sergio Servellón and Sandro Debono highlighted the importance of ensuring that the Cultural Heritage Cloud addresses real‑world needs across the museum sector.

In the art historians’ workshop, Sandro noted the existing knowledge gaps around digital tools and raised key issues such as access rights, intellectual property and cybersecurity. He underlined that the project’s outputs could be especially valuable for small and medium‑sized museums, offering digital resources that many institutions currently cannot prioritise due to limited funding.

Sergio participated in the curators’ working group, where he stressed the need for greater attention to risk management and the inclusion of intangible heritage within ECHOES’ developing “digital heritage twin ontology.” He also welcomed the project’s concrete results to date, such as a catalogue of 100 digital tools, training materials and upcoming cascading grants, and encouraged continued focus on practical outcomes that can be widely adopted across the museum sector.
