NEMO looks forward to representing its members and the European museum community at the high-level Museum Forum, which builds on UNESCO’s ongoing efforts to support museums worldwide, particularly the 2015 Recommendation on the protection and promotion of museums and collections. The Forum aims to highlight the crucial role of museums in society, fostering cultural exchange, sharing best practices, addressing contemporary challenges, and strengthening international and regional cooperation.
Aligned with the MONDIACULT 2022 Declaration, which emphasised the educational and social role of museums, the Forum will promote global dialogue on museums’ contributions to cultural heritage protection, social and economic development, and inclusive education. It will also serve as a platform to discuss the implementation of the UNESCO Global Framework on Culture and Arts Education, adopted in 2024.
A key focus will be the integration of digital technologies in museum management, enhancing collection protection and public engagement. Discussions will also contribute to UNESCO’s advocacy for culture as a stand-alone goal in the post-2030 development agenda and preparations for MONDIACULT 2025.
The Forum will explore priority topics such as:
- Museums as educational agents and platforms for lifelong learning
- The evolving role of museums beyond preservation
- The use of digital technologies in museum operations
