Now online: NEMO Webinar on collecting, curating and communicating diverse stories

On 7 June 2022, the House of European History (HEH) shared insights into how the museum tells a European story through both multinational and multilingual content and how it accommodates to such diversity. Participants were also introduced to HEH’s outreach initiative Fake (f)or Real.

Blandine Smilansky kicked off the webinar with a general introduction to the House of European History and its approach to collecting, curating and communicating history in a European way. The second speaker Raluca Bem Neamu focused on the museum’s latest outreach initiative – the touring exhibition Fake (f)or Real. The aim of the initiative is to bring the exhibition to other countries and in this way reach audiences who otherwise would not be able to visit the House of European History in Brussels. HEH is hoping to tour the exhibition at 9 museums in the European Union in the period 2023-2026 and interested museums are welcome to get in touch with raluca.neamu@ext.europarl.europa.eu.

Fake (fo)r Real is a turnkey exhibition, meaning that the hosting museum will be provided all of the material translated into the local language. The exhibition includes 60 objects from the collection, multimedia, games and mechanical interactives.

Blandine Smilansky

Works for the House of European History since early 2015. She coordinates the Communications and Partnerships Department of the museum since 2021. Previously she developed and implemented cultural programming for diverse audiences as a member of the Learning Department. Between 2009 and 2015, Blandine worked for EUROCLIO, the European Association of History Educators, in The Hague and in Brussels, where she gained experience in developing and delivering complex pan-European projects related to the implementation of innovative and responsible history, heritage and citizenship education. Blandine Smilansky studied history and cultural management in France.

Raluca Bem Neamu

Is an art historian and a cultural manager. Since 2021, she has worked as a Curator and Project Manager for the touring exhibitions at the House of European History in Brussels. Previously, she was the Head of the Education and Communication department at the National Museum of Art of Romania. Raluca also founded "I Wonder Way - Da`DeCe", an association which organises projects of cultural education across different cultural institutions, and aimed at a number of diverse audiences.
